Guys. I dropped the content pack like 10 posts ago lol

There's no Britas weapons.

Definitely gonna try this! Gotta get that true survival experience (I cut my hands jumping out a window, and now I have an infection and no medicine T_T every time!)

I will say, it'd be cool for a dice system to be used. I played a lot of serious RP project zomboid servers and it was fun using a dice system where it was literally like DnD with the added effect of PvE against zombies. It made combat much more simpler, and easy for people to not just say "Haha I win you loose" because you don't decide who wins or loses and it's based on how well the build of your character stacks up against your enemy. If you're good at guns, but you're stuck in melee range, you'll probably be fucked-- but if you're shit at guns, and at gun range, you're equally fucked. So it's just something to think about so people can't be a jack of all trades in a game where you can essentially min-max and become a jack of all trades to begin with.

Two cents

Cent two: I don't know if you are just using the "Paroxysm" name to appeal to an earlier server or if you are seriously intending to continue Paroxysm. If it is the latter, I must implore you to consider something else. Paroxysm is a fucking horrible setting. I don't know how many of you were actually privy to how horrible it was back then, but I speak as an admin from that time/server. There is nothing underneath the hood except for esoteric meta lore that players have no chance to interact with. If it's still archived on this forums, Toast posted the entire Paroxysm lore back after the server ended, so you are free to go look at it. My advice instead is that you come up with your own cool zombie outbreak lore, because Paroxysm fucking sucked.

I was always a bitter defender of Paroxyism as a setting but years later I'm not a big fan of the setting anymore, especially in PZRP.

I have an embarassing amount of playtime in Zomboid and the whole time I've been craving something that strikes the balance between survival gameplay and rp for a long time. after trying a couple servers I'm really uninterested in servers with bloated content packs and convoluted alt-history lore that does little to set itself apart from any other take on PZRP once you're acutally on the ground. Small groups of survivors are loomed over by monolithic factions, with heavy arms and armor and motor pools, that have already pilfered towns with new custom setting/modded threats like special infected and sprinters, and there's cures and people driving around in armored ford mustangs. Seems like a lot of these servers use custom settings that try and introduce novel challenges and then overcorrect to make other settings like loot tables/respwan. It used to be special if you were in a group that had an M16, much less a military vehicle. now servers seem to have at least a faction with their own helicopter. maybe it's fun for people to see a brick shithouse walk past them with EOD armor and an M60 yapping on the radio to their remnant military faction on the radio. it feels like trp, and there's nothing wrong with trp but it betrays a zombie setting where you need to scrounge shit up to survive against a slow but persistent threat. every time i've been on one of these servers I feel like im less playing a game and more I get to watch another better-supplied and organized faction get to act out a power fantasy that I'm excluded from. It's like TRP but if most player characters were the grubby bunker survivors from the first movie eating rats and watching burning televisions basking in the presence of cooler characters. yawn.

that shit is for the birds. ideal setting for me is just drop us in 90s kentucky with regular zombies and fairly regular settings (with some settings adjusted for multiplayer; like not requiring sleep and just slightly more generous loot based on population), no cure/vaccine mods, no britas guns or special infected, no 15gb of custom cars. The vanilla guns are perfectly okay for multiplayer (if you're having trouble then you either didn't spec your character right, didn't train with shotguns, or you're using the wrong gun for the job). FIlibusters is okay, drive 90s is even better for a lean vehicle mod, KI5 cars is overkill and pollutes the map with scrap parts that can only be used on 1 or 2 specific vehicles. yeah zomboid is sorely lacking heavier logistics vehicles and some rare military vehicles, but its more interesting to me to have a shitty Geo Metro in a setting where cars have to be worked for, something that you and/or your buddies fixed up. I love the clumsy chaos of vanilla pvp - if you gave two inexperienced fighters weapons and had them fight to the death, it might go down something like that. I'd much rather see vanilla-lite setup -with mods that either add to make RP smoother or QOL quick fixes- in regular 1993 knox country personally. maybe it's something everyone else got to try and got bored of quickly, but i never felt like I got enough of that ramshackle vanilla MP experience.

that said I would love to see a custom setting that expands beyond the scope of "zombies but uglier and haunted", or something that plays with another IP not limited to zombies, and I'd be all for that. I know there were a few people working on some fallout-themed stuff that was interesting and promising. PZ is fertile ground for a half-life portal storms type setting too. Resonance Aftershock 2 maybe?

It used to be special if you were in a group that had an M16, much less a military vehicle.
In all of the innumerable zombie books, games, and movies I've enjoyed, this type of scenario has always been my favorite. I like when what defines survivors is how they're able to use their ingenuity, and each has a different approach to what survival is. Some of them are bandits, others are farmers, and many still simply scavenge. Dying Light comes to mind as one good example of a game that does this, if a little over the top given how crazy the weapons are; You would rarely ever have a gun, even a pistol would be very powerful (if you were able to land good shots,) and ammo was fairly limited. Instead, you were most successful when you kept track of the hordes, had the right weapon for the job, and knew how to evade without drawing more attention to yourself. Base game singleplayer zomboid also does this in a more grounded setting.

In the books too, I've read that the most successful survivors were not the ones with truckloads of milsurp, they were the ones that had a good idea of how the zombies behaved and how to get around them well. I even recall in one book formatted as periodic journal entries that the main character took an entire day just to observe how the zombies were behaving outside of his house, obviously that isn't very fun for gameplay but it's a good way to point out that what defines survival best in the setting is your ability to keep a level head and know what you're dealing with. If we're going for more realism (which can be fun) then it's important to understand just how much of a game changer military and even police-grade equipment can be when used properly. Any faction that got their hands on just a single LMG could very well be a threat to most if not all of the server, to give an idea.

you've probably already read it but world war z covers how a lot of military equipment was ill suited for that, and most of the guns people were successful with were light target guns and .22's, rather than automatic weapons and big bore weapons.

oh that's another aspect of vanilla zomboid i love! The military gear has its place, but a full military kit is not the ideal for fighting zombies, and when people are geared up for fighting, they're wearing firefighter outfits, anti stab vests, welding masks, etc. like you look like a bandit/an insane person if you're geared up, it's great. Meanwhile clothes are pretty balanced you can still make yourself look cool without sacrificing too much. unless you're trying to look sexy, but at that point you are playing the game in hard mode anyway
