The future of TRP

i know we're all pre-programmed to expect that there is some serious behind-the-scenes drama when things like this occur

But there literally isn't this time.
Yeah pretty much. Just the way things turned out, so if we could all just relax and go back to our things that'd be great. Looking forward to Matrix RP though.

Holy shit "Matrix RP", ngl that sounds pretty bad ass. I can't wait to hear more info regarding that project.

Edit: Oh this was most likely an April fools joke lol

Garry has assured me that there is in fact room for an additional server on gmod without effecting capacity and added a follow up note that you can even connect to it if you want without it preventing you from playing another server.

Either way, things can change over time without it being a problem. Shit changes, stuff evolves. Maybe TnB will do something new knowing that long time players have another avenue for TRP that doesn't depend on them.

Yeah. This.

There isn’t any big crash out or anything like that.

TRP has never been the main focus of TnB, but to the TRP team it was the ONLY focus. TRP has taken on its own identity now. Not as a haha funny shoot bot server like it once was, but as a serious setting with many roleplay possibilities that now has a team solely dedicated to it. To us it was never something temporary to take pressure off of the community or give HL2 some room to breathe (although those were pluses)

When we originally started this project two years ago we were a group of begrudged trp3 admins who, frankly, didn’t appreciate the way trp3 was managed, and the abrupt end it had. That’s not to blame anyone, HL2 is TnBs main focus, and when the time came to sacrifice TRP for other projects, it was taken. That’s perfectly fine.

It was important to us that TRP wouldn’t be put in another trp3 situation, and could be given a lot of time, dedication, and love to help it realize its full potential. So we entered into our original agreement with TnB under the stipulation that TRP would be apart of TnB but completely autonomous, independently managed with only general oversight from the management.

TnB never overstepped those boundaries, and were very grateful for that. But as the project evolved we realized that we’re no longer trying to cater to just one community, but to all of Gmod serious RP. And to do that we needed to be approachable as a place between the competing HL2 communities.

At the day, this was the direction we all, mutually, chose to take. And I’d like to thank the Community Managers for their maturity and willingness to send off TRP to blossom on its own, and allow it its own identity and community.

I hope this leaves TNB open to explore new settings, to create and innovate rather than flip flopping between HL2 and TRP as it has been for some years now.

And as always, I am looking forward to collaborations between our communities, to help foster great roleplay experiences for all of our players

Stay frosty TNB, see you soon

i also want to put my two cents in and say that i think it's a little unfair to everybody involved on projects currently under way (including HL2, CC2 and the related halo testbed roleplay) to suggest that tnb will die without one singular example of many possible tentpole projects holding it down. people are already hard at work behind the scenes to make cool shit for us to do and actively have been so for months now from all directions (tank and imp's dev updates make that clear as day).

additionally, i think it's also unfair to lambda (+ his folks) to have had the crazy pressure on him of singlehandedly keeping the community alive through his vision for trp. as long as people care about tnb, tnb will live. and right now that is very, very readily the case

TRP was good, but it would require a fundamental game change in the engine, design, physics and graphics. I can do something like that but not right now, I’d rather focus on helping Half-Life: 2 Roleplay come back again and with getting Arnold Schwarzenegger to help us with TRP later.

Won’t believe it until I see some Laidlaw emails to back it up srry

I recognize that your initial reaction comes from a place of concern & being passionate for the aforementioned project, but I think you would benefit from unlearning this reflex where everything is the worst possible scenario/coming from the most ill intentions fathomable.

It’s getting to be a pattern for some people (not just yourself; I don’t mean to single you out BtB) and it just ends up exhausting all parties involved.

We’ve been extremely willing to extend the olive branch and give people more context when they approach us in a civil dialogue, and we do our best to not unnecessarily obfuscate information, but you gotta meet us half way.

The reason I reacted by leaving this place initially was because the lack of trust in your admin team. People like Flood literally held the server together for months, Nap reignited the player base with a single short story and created the best CCA dynamics I'd ever seen atleast from a public perspective. And what did you lot do when they provided information on 'corruption' in your ranks? Your team deleted it before I even had time to properly try figure it out and the key people I knew that were trying to help the server left.

I'm also coming from the perspective of someone who has stepped away from the server because of personal issues so I'm going off what I see on the forums so when your team straight up deletes information it looks bad. I didn't even get time to go through the posted information before it was deleted.

So when this new announcement came through it seemed like the final nail in the coffin until both sides public ally communicated that things were mutual.

moatilliatta moatilliatta what's funny? Stop being a bullying cunt, I don't want to deal with your aggressive behaviour on discord so I blocked you, I try being civil via forum PM so I can deal with you at my own pace, you spam other people to get me to talk to you but I don't want that and then you make it your business to be the first to be passive aggressive after months on no communication and a clear sign that while I don't want to communicate with you I am respectful.

Fuck off you cunt.

Best of luck to the TRP team and hope everyone has a lovely time there.

It also seems like we have a lot of passionate people still hanging around with a lot of great ideas, so I think it'd be cool to see maybe some short-term setting ideas or scenarios to propose. I think everyone here should get a shot at running something, and I see a lot of creative energy that people use to invent characters and scenarios for the server, and oftentimes they're not even playing on it! I hear a lot of very creative and funny ideas, at least.

I think if that were harnessed into proactive energy to make things better and keep things fresh, we might avoid situations where somebody's hope is crushed because all they planned to do was wait.

As was explained by cindyslug cindyslug and corroborated by Lambda Lambda , there really is no reason to feel negative about these developments. We wish Lambda and The Future War all the best. As also mentioned by bennet bennet , everyone is free to enjoy whatever they want whenever they want. After all, everyone just wants their own fair share of fun and entertainment.

I'd like to give emphasis to those terms: fun and entertainment. Without TRP, TnB will have to content itself with HL2RP for the foreseeable future (though I also welcome izanami izanami 's suggestion for short-term setting ideas or scenarios). If you as a player aren't having fun with what TnB currently has to offer, please do approach the admin team and let us know how we can help. We're here to listen and to make the best for as many people as possible, so if you identify with I am saying do come and dialogue with us in a productive manner.

With that said, this is not the place to vent frustrations, make snide comments or throw insults. There is a difference between wanting to work things out and merely spreading negativity. One is helpful, the other isn't. As for this thread, let's not steer off-topic and keep things limited to TRP. I'm glad that the thread was kept unlocked so we could identify people's confusion and clarify them. If there's anything else, let us know. If not (or if you'd rather change the subject), then I think this thread could be locked and discussions moved elsewhere.

Cheers.
